Road Construction: “Today, And Here, I Terminate This Contract”- Soludo Thunders

Gov Soludo face-to-face with NBHH Rep

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has terminated the contract of NBHH Engineering Company over negligence and delay in delivering nine roads totaling 14.053 km in Okpoko area of the state.

The Governor announced the immediate termination of the road project contract when he visited the site unannounced on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

Speaking at the road construction site Governor Soludo described the company  as Incompetent to handle the project and deliver the job on time. It was gathered that the project duration according to the contract was meant to last for 9months. The Contractor was mobilised Sept 10, 2022, and Project was supposed to have been completed June 10, 2023.

“This is the 9th month after it was supposed to have ended. So double the period when you supposed to have delivered this project. It becomes very evident that your company is totally incompetent and irresponsible. After we paid you 50% mobilization, there’s no place else in the country that pays 50% mobilization, never other places that even pay 15% mobilization.

“We paid you 50% mobilization 2022, and this project was supposed to be delivered June last year. Nine months after, you haven’t delivered. You are still at 40something percent. Today and here, I terminate this contract.

“We are going to calculate what you are going to refund back to state government. You can move your things out here, from tommorrow. I’m looking for somebody else to start this project.” Soludo said

The nine (9) road project in Okpoko include:

-Obodoukwu – Owerri Road (L= 2.884km W=12m)

-Ogbuagu-Ik Onuora-Anumudu-Mgbuka Amazu -Owerri Road (L= 2.992km W=7.3m)

-Edeh Road-School Road-Awalite-  Ojoto -Owerri Road (L= 1.48km W= 9m)

School Road-Umuobom Street- Ojoto Street Junction (L= 0.576km W= 6m)

-Umuobom ST (Ojoto St Junction)- Adazi Ani ST – Owerri Road (L=1. 345km W=6m).

-Umenweke ST (Obodoukwu Junction) – Umeojiakor ST (School Rd Junction) (L=0.593km W=6km)

-Awalite (Ojoto Junction) – Anumudu (Mgbuka Amazu Junction) (L= 0.991km W= 6m)

-Uzii Street – Mission Street (Awalite Junction) (L= 0.538km W= 6m)

-Anumudu Street (Ik Onuora Junction) – Gmo Road (L= 0.350km W= 9m)}

This failure to deliver road projects on time annoys both government(client) and road users who expect to benefit from the completed road.
