Sack Non-Performing Commissioners, Ogene Igbo Tells Soludo

Our Reporter

The Convener of Anambra Independent Media Support Group, Dr. Chuma-Odili Harris Udokamma a.k.a Ogene Igbo has reinstated the need for the Anambra state governor Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo to drop non-performing Commissioners in a bid to stem the darts of critisms on the government.

While speaking to Newsmen on Wednesday, Ogene Igbo said that 2025 Gubernatorial election is fast approaching and, of course, there are anxieties and concerns.

“Let me start by saying that I have read so many versions of permutations regarding the next elections. Some people are of the opinion that it would be tough to reelect Gov Soludo, others are afraid APC will cause a major disruption, just as there are those who are strongly of the view that Peter Obi’s Labour Party will give the ruling APGA a run. I think that what is happening now, in my view, would allow one to have a true picture of what would happen in 2025. The reason I say this is that there are some alignments and realignments still going on in the polity among the members of the political class. Some people are moving in and out of their parties. I think that until the alignments and realignments are concluded and exhausted, it will be hasty to make a hurried prediction of what it would look like come 2025.”

Ogene Igbo went further to rate Soludo’s administration saying that the people of Anambra are not blind to the positive changes the government has brought to bear since inception. He, however decried the need to reshuffle the governor’s cabinet for effective and affective governance.

“The nature of politics to expect in 2025 would be largely dependent on the general perception of Soludo’s administration. To be sincere, Governor Soludo is doing well, but there are some members of his cabinet that should be dropped, and replaced with capable hands. There’s an urgent need to sack non-performing Commissioners. Mr Governor had organized retreats several times, to ensure his vision and lofty plans for Ndi Anambra are achieved, but some members of his cabinet are visibly performing below expectation in their various ministries, and this would pose as threats to his second term bid.

“In the past two years, there are notable Commissioners who have made the Soludo’s government proud- like Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Commissioner for Women And Children Affairs, Commissioner for Culture and Entertainment, and Commissioner for Environment. These outstanding Commissioners are performing creditably well, and have added value.
As of today, I can assure you that with all the intrigues going on in the political landscape, the opposition is relentless in discrediting Gov Soludo’s administration. Truth be told, these Commissioners who are performing below par are giving room for darts of critisms. I will decline to support a situation where you leave a non-performing Commissioner in his position. The governor should be able to review the situation. My opinion is that the moment any member of the Exco is found wanting, he should just sack him or her. Straight. There are no two ways about that. There should be no sympathy and there should be no-taking-it-easy situation. It is a straightforward thing.

On the issue of security in the state, Ogene Igbo said Gov Soludo is doing his best but, there’s need for Federal Government to look into the situation of things in the state.

“Well, talking about the spate of insecurity in the state, the political situation has made it difficult for the democratically elected governors to be in charge of their states in terms of security. This is because the Commissioner of Police takes directives from the AIG and the AIG takes directives from the Inspector General. My own take would be for Governors to always meet the Commander-in-Chief and draw his attention that this and that is what is happening in his state and I am sure that the Commander- in-Chief would be able to call the situation to order. I feel that it is a give and take situation. Once there is a problem, especially on security, you should present it to Commander-in-Chief and certainly, he would do something.” Ogene Igbo concluded
