Soludo’s Two Years Performance, Anambra On Course- Ogene Ogbunike

By Ogbuefi Dr. Harris Chuma-Odili (Ogene Ogbunike)

Gov Soludo

February 22, 2024

After sprinting off from the starting block in 2022, Governor Soludo has settled to a measured pace in his 2years in office as he projects and ponders the place of Anambra in the long term future. Most Ndi Anambra with the noticeable exception of the political opposition are, however, not complaining.

Some have called him the Mr. Fixer, while others have hailed him as the Solution Provider. Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State in his first two years has been a godsend to Anambra.

In two years he moved with a speed that evinced the fact that Anambra could in fact be made to work. His spectacular performance in road infrastructure, road construction and reconstruction is quite remarkable.

However, the jury is still out there if Soludo has kept pace with the first two years. But the governor is certainly not in doubt as concerning his mission, looking beyond temporary assessments to the future.

Ndi Anambra are eagerly looking beyond 2025. Governor Soludo’s plans should see  how Anambra can comfortably become home to millions of people, and support it efficiently.  In order to make remarkable strides towards realizing the vision of a livable and prosperous homeland for all, Gov Soludo should be projecting towards what Anambra would be in ten years time.

Gov Soludo’s two years in office has mostly been focused at initiating projects across the state. Hundreds of road projects are also being undertaken across all council areas

These developments include the emerging New Face of Awka Capital City project, the Construction of Solution FunCity, the ongoing Construction of Ekwulobia flyover, Ugwunwasike Ogidi- Enugu/Onitsha Express link road, Okpoko urban regeneration project, and massive road constructions in different parts of the state

The Soludo administration is also focusing on environmental renewal with an eye on over 50 massive de-flooding projects involving dredging, desilting and maintenance of primary and secondary collectors.

Towards revitalizing critical access roads, the Soludo administration has committed significant public resources to improving and expanding them to a level where they can effectively support the new Anambra status.

Many of the striking points in his two years were the strictest enforcement of the Anambra state Road Traffic law, which in part, restricts and regulates the activities of road users on major highways in the state. The enforcement of Anambra state burial law, the enforcement of Traditional Rulers Council laws, enforcement of Anambra state environmental laws, among others. It provoked mixed reactions from some quarters, but the government remained resolute in the application of rule of law.

The administration was also flayed for the demolition of shanties illegally situated on the roadsides, walk ways and drainage areas within and outside the Capital City, by petty traders.

The Senator Representing Anambra South Senatorial District of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC Senator Ifeanyi Ubah however, asserts that Soludo has failed to live to promise.
According to Sen.Ubah who is reportedly warming up for governorship race next year “Soludo administration is clueless, directionless and lacks wisdom.”

The Senator Ubah’s assertion were, however, dismissable. While the case has always been that the nature of bitter politics, synonymous with Nigeria democratic arena hardly allow opposition parties to see anything good about the party in government, it has a different case in respect of Governor Soludo, whose activities in the last two years have set the opposition parties at discordant tunes. Both factions of APC have in separate reactions commended Soludo for having introduced a new dimension to the growth and development of the state far beyond what his predecessor Obiano did.

The greatest achievement Soludo has recorded in two years into his second term in office is firm and intelligent consolidation of the progress made by APGA led government in the last 16 years.

Ogene Ogbunike exchanges pleasantries with Gov Soludo and Wife at “Iwaji Anambra 2023”

Since Prof Soludo came to power in 2022 he has through dint of hard-work made Anambra a powerful destination not only in Nigeria but in Africa. The economy of Anambra is rapidly growing, and will soon surpass the economy of some countries like Ghana,Togo, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire and some other African countries.

In just two years, there has been remarkable achievements in security, infrastructural developments, education, health, economic transformation, and human capital development Initiatives. But despite these records there are still grey areas where the governor is expected to address. Many citizens of the state are still uncomfortable with the menace of revenue collectors in some parts of the state.

I must say that I am impressed with his performance so far, especially in the area of infrastructural developments. I must sincerely commend him on what he is doing and I am very proud of him. Gov Soludo, should be encouraged and supported to finish the good works he has started in Anambra. Let’s eschew politics of bitterness, campaign of calumny, deceit and deep-sitted hatred, let’s join hands together to make Anambra liveable and prosperous. May Anambra succeed!
