We Want To Beat South Africa To Reach AFCON Final, Says Peseiro

Coach Peseiro

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has spelt out a stark warning for his team that they must play with 100% performance to beat South Africa when both sides meet today in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals clash at Stade Bouake.

Speaking at his  pre-match press conference at Stade de la Paix de Bouake yesterday, Peseiro, who acknowledged the good job his team has done in the tournament, stressed the need for them to do more to secure victory against  the  Bafana Bafana.

“Our team is doing a good job up until now to reach the semi-final. We have shown good spirit, we have shown good organization. We’ve shown up till now, good commitment and good fight. We have played like a team together. We have played against good national teams and we want to beat South Africa to reach the final, that’s our goal,” Peseiro said.

He continued: “We know the capacity and the power of our opponent. Our opponent has done a fantastic tournament. They are team with good quality and good capacity. My players and I  know what we must do, but we must play 100% to beat a very good team.”

Nigeria has been rated among the favourites following their outstanding performance in the tournament ,  and the Portuguese stated further that all his players would be involved in the game against South Africa.

He said: “Let respect the opponent, this is semi-finals, but I believe if we reach the final we can win the AFCON because I know their (Super Eagles) value. For me, I believe we must play the same way we played  our last match, we must play together,  all the 25 players; eleven players in the pitch and 14 on the bench.

“To attack with 11 on the pitch and 14 on the bench. And together we want to play; attack well and defend very well. Tomorrow (today) I want the victory. I have confidence in my team and I believe we can do it,” he noted.

Peseiro also revealed that he have confidence in the team to go far in AFCON before he signed his contract.

“We want to win this competition. When I signed the contract, I checked my players, I checked the squad, I checked about 57 players or 72 Nigerian players before I signed my contract and I said I want to sign this contract because I believe we can win the AFCON. It’s not because I’m genius that was why I came, no. but because I believe in them (Super Eagles), because I know the quality in my players. It is not because I am a good coach and you can win the AFCON, no. I signed the contract because I can work with my squad and I can win with these guys,” Peseiro added (Nation)
